Design and Quality
Last year, the HTC One M8 was the most award winning smartphone in terms of its seemingly flawless design and features. So, this year too, the expectations from the Taiwanese manufacturer are quite high and as far as we know, the M9 is stunningly well crafted. The flagship has a refined two-tone metal finish that, no doubt, makes it one of the most beautiful smartphone in the market. It is 9.6 mm thick, slightly thicker than the M8, which comes off as no big surprise considering the bump in specifications. But in fact, the device is quite easy to hold and fits naturally in the hands. On the One M9, the power key has been moved to the right side of the device, making it considerably easier to access than before. Also, the Volume rocker has been changed to two separate up and down keys. The back of the phone has a protruding 20.7 MP camera with a two-tone LED flash solution for better color accuracy. As usual the BoomSound speakers are in the front, this time with Dolby surround solution for improved surround sound output.
OS and Tech
The M9 runs on the latest version of the android Lollipop 5.0.1 with the Sense 7 UI. With the new UI, there’s support for customizable themes, a context based widget, the ability to share media through three-finger swipes and much more. The device is powered by a 2GHz 64-bit Octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. Housing the best processor available in the market along with the latest GPU, Adreno 430 ensures the M9 for a smooth and zero lag performance in all sections.
Camera and Multimedia
Unlike the dual camera technology used in the M8, the M9 has one single rear camera of 20.7 MP. The slightly protruded rear camera is provided with a two tone dual LED flash to negate the softness and increase the color accuracy. The Ultra Pixel camera provided in the rear of previous One has been shifted to the front. It comes with a 4 MP Ultra Pixel camera which provides stunning low light selfies in breathtaking clarity. 2G, 3G and 4G bands are supported by the device along with Category 6 LTE, which provides speed up to 300 Mbps download speed.
Battery and Memory
The smartphone comes with a 2900 mAh Li-po battery, which is an improvement over the 2600 mAh battery given in the M8. With a 3GB DDR4 RAM, the smartphone offers a complete lag-free performance with the freedom to use apps and games on a whim. An Internal memory of 32 GB is provided which is more than sufficient for storage and it can be further expanded to 128 GB. So users have a lot of memory here, both primary and secondary.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
• Stunning two tone metallic design
• Large RAM and Memory
• Best available Octa-core processor
• Excellent Camera with two tone LED flash
• Stunning BoomSound Output with Dolby Solution
Cons:
• No QHD screen
Verdict
HTC one M9 is certainly a flagship to look out for. Upgraded with the latest OS and UI, it is technology at its very best. It is no doubt an ergonomic yet sturdy phone to take the challenge to iPhone 6 to be its Premium rival. The only downside to the phone is the lack of a QHD screen where its main rivals, Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G Flex 2 come in. Apart from it, the smartphone as a whole is a flagship through and through.
