Micromax is the domestic mobile phone company of India and has offered many smart devices. But it has a reputation to sell low quality products and due to this reason many people don’t prefer to buy products made by Micromax over Sony or Samsung. So the company has finally decided to make its products standout in market and be the bird of everyone’s eye and after this decision the result comes out in shape of Yu Yureka. Yu Televentures is actually a new subsidiary company working in collaboration with Micromax to design smartphone targeting youth only. The collaboration is making budget sensitive phones with much attractive names.

Features and Specifications

Yu Yureka has large screen of 5.5inch having 1280x720p resolution. The screen is guarded by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 in order to keep the screen safe from smudges and scratches. The phone is powered by 1.5GHz octa-core processor and 2GB RAM. The built-in storage is 16GB which can be further expanded using microSD card. The phone is strong in camera department as well having 13MP back and 5MP front camera. The phone supports dual SIMs and a battery life of 2500mAh while the connectivity options available are GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE and 4G. The OS is Cyanogen OS version 11.0-XNPH520 which is quite a new version of OS as seen in OnePlus One.

Design and Quality

The look of the phone is very smart. It is 8.8mm slim and 150g in weight which makes it a lighter handset. The front of the phone is black having a small sphere button used as the home button. The volume rocker is located at the left side and the power button at the right. The 3.5mm audio jack is placed at the top while the microUSB port is located at the bottom. The back of the phone has 13MP rear camera with LED flash at top of it. While the speaker grill is located at the bottom. The device carries no signs of Micromax anywhere. The back of the device has nice finish giving good grip and it is removable as well to uncover the battery, two micro SIM card slots along with microSD card slot.

OS and Tech

The device is running on Cyanogen OS. This OS seems good as it allows user to customize its appearance. The UI provided on top of this OS is also highly customizable and one can easily match and mix elements among different themes. The OS is a fun to play with but most of the mobiles lack this OS and rely on Android so there may performance lags be observed here. In performance most of the times the Yu Yureka seems to be like Xiaomi Redmi Note in performance.

Camera and Multimedia

The camera is the most notable feature of this phone. The quality of images generated from back camera is stunning. The close up shots are even more stunning and the daylight images are truly sharp but the device takes longer time to get autofocus. The lowlight photography is a challenge for the device and the flash helps it to get smooth pictures a lot. The videos recorded by this camera is little shaky but the quality is good. The front camera also does an excellent job for fallacies.

Battery and Memory

The 2500mAh battery does a wonderful job and keeps the phone working for a day and a half under moderate use. Even under heavy use this much battery is able to stand for more than half day. The large screen though squeezes much of energy but the battery can fairly accommodate the demands of every feature. The 2GB RAM is high enough to give a performance boost to the device. The 16GB internal storage is also large enough and it can be further extended as well so users have a lot of memory here both primary and secondary.

Verdict

This is considered as a smart move from Micromax by launching collaboration with another company. The Yureka has the similar performance as that of Xiaomi Redmi Note which is little expensive than this one. So the local Indian company Micromax is giving a tough fight to Chinese company. Yureka has many to offer and the little flaws in it can be easily ignored as the device is available with amazing features at very low price. The device has very well identified its target audience and is serving them very well. The Cyanogen OS is also a plus here and it is expected it will continue to offer good performance throughout. This device can be considered as one of the best affordable device of 2014.
