Karbonn K98
Score
Karbonn K98 Mobile Price in India
The K98 by Karbonn is a very low cost mobile solution which features a few unique design decisions. The phone has somewhat of a high-tech look to it, and that’s really what’s going to distinguish this phone from the crowd. Aside from the design, none of the specs are really that great. Karbonn is a large phone manufacturer based in India. They are aimed at providing the market with extremely low-cost mobile phone solutions. Most of the time, they try to come up with great designs to set their phones apart from the competition. The Karbonn K98 is no different.
Features and Specifications
The K98 can take dual SIM cards (GSM + GSM). The screen, as expected has a size of 2.4 inches, with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The OS is proprietary, so you will be missing out on some of the fantastic features of Android, Windows, and iOS. The processor is unknown, but frankly irrelevant. Onboard memory is non-existent, so you will not be able to really store any of your files when you first get the phone. However, you can expand the memory via microSD car up to 8GB. The battery is 1800 mAh, so that’s quite good for a phone like this; it should keep the phone running for a good few days. The connectivity is pretty bad, with support for Bluetooth, and 2G. Remember that specifications are not key to a phone like this. The Karbonn K98 is meant to be very bare-bones and cost effective option. You aren’t going to need a lot of processing power because the screen and OS are so restricted, and you don’t need 3G because you aren’t going to need high-speed data. Keep all of that in mind when considering this phone.
Design and Quality
Design-wise, it could have been a lot better considering Karbonn’s aesthetic track record. The only great thing about this phone is the bold red OK button located on the middle of the phone. Aside from that, the keyboard has a nice brushed aluminum look. Above the keyboard are the Karbonn logo and then the screen. The rest of the phone is quite standard. If you are looking for different phones with this sort of design, take a look at the Nokia 130 Dual SIM.
OS and Tech
With a proprietary OS, you shouldn’t expect cutting-edge functionality and a vast app store. However, this phone does have some pretty nice features. This includes some games, and alarm clock, a calendar, and a calculator.
Camera and Multimedia
The camera has a VGA resolution, which is the lowest option a phone manufacturer can put in. However, it’s better than nothing, and you will be able to take some satisfactory photos with this camera. Unfortunately, there is no support for video recording. However, there is an included music player and FM radio.
Battery and Memory
The 1800 mAh battery is going to provide a good amount of time. There has not been any kind of benchmarking for this phone in particular. Based on estimates, you should be able to get around 5-6 hours talk time. The memory is non-existent, and that makes sense. For this price, you can’t expect to get a lot of memory, so some manufacturers just exclude it altogether. MicroSD compatibility will let you install 8GB of memory, however.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:
· Fantastic price
· Support for dual SIM
· Support for 8GB microSD
· Very capable battery
· Unique design
For Cons:
· Very limited connectivity
· Bare-bones features
Verdict
If you are looking for bare-bones, low end, low cost phone with a fairly nice design, considers the Karbonn K98; the Samsung Guru E1207 is also a good choice in these respects. If you are not in need of smartphone functionality, this is great. It offers the basic phone functionality as well as some additional features such as games, music player, camera, etc. Overall, it’s an OK budget phone with a nice design.
