Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 Mini
Score
Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 Mini Mobile Price in India
The OneTouch Idol 2 Mini, from Alcatel, is a bit of a mouthful, but is designed as a basic 4G handset, and the price and specs reflect this. It is much better designed than some of its direct competition like the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, and this was obviously Alcatel’s goal when designing this phone.
Features & Specifications
The phone has a 4.5 inch screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, giving it pixels per inch of 245. The phone is powered by a 1.2GHz, quad core processor which also comes with 1GB of RAM. There is built in storage of 2GB, with the ability to extend this through the use of a microSD card up to 32GB. The front facing camera is a measly 0.3MPs but has a decent rear camera at 8 MPs with an LED flash. The battery is a rather small 1700mAh, with connectivity options that include; 3G, 4G, GPS and Bluetooth. The OS is Android v.4.3 Jelly Bean.
Design and Quality
This is a very well designed phone, and it shows in its looks. It is much more appealing than its counterparts (Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and Sony Xperia E1) the case is made from brushed aluminium, and its dimensions are 129 x 63.5 x 7.9 mm with a total weight of 110g. The volume rocker and lock screen button are located on the right side of the phone, with a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top and microUSB charging port on the bottom. The front facing camera is on the top right beside the speaker, and the rear facing camera is in the centre top of the rear panel with the LED flash located just underneath.
OS and Tech
The OneTouch Idol 2 Mini runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, a slightly outdated version of the Android OS, now that v4.4 Kit Kat has been out for some time. That is not to say that there are any problems with Jelly Bean. While you may miss out on some additional features and improved performance, there have been several reported issues since Kit Kat’s release. The handset also has scratch-resistant Dragontrail glass.
Camera and Multimedia
The rear facing camera on the OneTouch Idol 2 Mini is a paltry 0.3Mps, which is very poor by today's standards. However, the rear facing camera is a much more satisfactory 8 MPs, accompanied by an LED flash and a couple of other features like; Autofocus, Touch to focus, Manual focus, Face detection, Burst mode, Panorama, and Night mode. As this is an Android based OS phone, it comes with photo viewer and editor, multimedia player, FM, a 3.5mm headphone jack and many more.
Battery and Memory
The battery in the handset is a 1700mAh capacity Lithium Ion. This should provide around 15 hours of moderate use, but heavy use will deplete this much quicker. The battery is definitely the most lacklustre component of this handset. The phone has an internal storage capacity of 2GB, this will fill up pretty quickly if you don’t use an additional microSD card, and even then, you can only add an additional 32GB to this.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:
· Great design
· Desirable price point
For Cons:
· Poor Battery
· Poor front facing camera
· Minimal storage options
· Low screen resolution
Verdict
The OneTouch Idol 2 Mini is designed to be a cheap 4G handset, and it shows. Not in the design, which is superb, but in the components and core specs. A poor battery, poor processor and poor screen resolution mean that within the section of the smartphone market that this phone fits, there are better options out there.
