China is one of the largest producers of smart phones and Xiaomi has been successful in gaining fame for its products. Its smart phones are compared in features and performance to Lenovo and Asus phones. In January 2015 Xiaomi Inc. launched Xiaomi Redmi 2 which is beautiful in design and comes with a number of good features.  Also the price range is very good for this category of phones.

Features and Specifications

The smart phone has an 8 MP camera that can capture photos and videos. The display screen is 4.7 inches with a protectionof screen by Corning Gorilla Glass 2. This allows users to freely use the mobile without worrying about damaging the screen.

The Android OS used for Redmi 2 is KitKat which is one of the latest operating systems. It also has two processors with different storage capacities. It is easy to get communication and network connectivity using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and GPS.

For 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 306 GPU the Android OS v4.4 called KitKat works wonderfully. It is 4g enabled and supports LTE. The good part is it has dual SIMs and for both the GSM networking is available.

As far as communications are concerned 2G, 3G, 4G LTE and HSPA are all available for the phone on dual SIM mode.   

Camera and Multimedia

It has a front camera of 2 MP and a rear camera of 8 MP both of which do not have up to the mark results. With 3264 x 2448 pixels, auto-focus, LED flash and face detection the phone has a display of 1020p for the rear and 720p for the front cameras. This is one of the drawbacks of this smart phone.

It has FM availability with loudspeakers, a wide screen for display and can show audios, videos and photos in a colorful 312 pixel per inch screen.

There is also a document viewer and photo and video editor. The multimedia aspect of the phone is not its strong point. But it does fulfill the basic user needs.

Battery and Memory

For 1 GB Ram the internal memory is 8 GB and for 2 GB Ram the internal memory is 16 GB. Also there is an external slot which can hold a 32 GB micro SD card. All of this shows that the phone can store large amounts of data. But one drawback is that the OS gets slow. Performance delay is one drawback to this good phone.

The battery runs for a talk time of more than 12 hours and is easily rechargeable. It recharges fast and can be removed.

This is one of the best selling points of this smart phone.

Verdict

The smart phone is good and when buyers will compare the price and performance they will like the result. Xiaomi Redmi 2 is sometimes compared to Lenovo a6000 and Asus ZenFone 5. The other two phones have similar specifications but the main problem with this set is its bad camera quality. Also the OS and CPU are very powerful but someatimes they cannot handle the load and perform slowly.

Even after these problems it is a good phone due to its long lasting battery, good memory space and its support for LTE network.
