Panasonic Eluga Icon Mobile Price in India
The Panasonic Eluga Icon was very recently announced by Panasonic for the Indian Market and it is exclusively available at the Amazon India store for Rs. 10,999. Panasonic is very popular in India compared to the neighboring countries and this is one of the reasons why Panasonic continues offering phones exclusive to the Indian Market. The handset goes on sale on the 14th of August 2015 just one day ahead of Independence Day.
Features and Specifications
The phone has many great features and specs which shows that Panasonic put some though into what they are offering to the Indian people. It has dual sim features with support for all networks i.e. 2G, 3G and 4G (also known as LTE). It has a big 5.5 inch screen that uses IPS OGS tech and is capable of HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is powered by a powerful 64-bit 1.5GHz Octacore processor with a satisfying 2GB of RAM to support it. The primary camera is 13MP with LED flash and the front or secondary camera is 8MP. It has a 16GB Internal memory with support for MicroSD card as well.
Design and Quality
The phone is going for the classic bar shaped look with rounded edges. It suits the phone but the bezels take away from the chance of it looking sleek and stylish. You have physical touch keys instead of on-screen ones while above the display you will find the centered Panasonic logo. One issue with this phone is the protruding camera; it is a magnet for scratches especially when kept screen side up. A great step by Panasonic is the textured back cover which looks great with the phone. Quality wise this phone is good since Panasonic is a household name in the home appliances area so their manufacturing materials are high quality as well.
OS and Tech
The Panasonic Eluga Icon uses Android OS v4.4 KitKat. Almost everyone has used Android these days as it is the dominant operating system in the world. It has great multitasking support and a big library of games and apps available for it on the Google Play Store. The 1.5GHz 64-Bit Octa core processor and 2GB RAM are more than enough to handle the requirements of KitKat which will ensure a stable and smooth experience by the user. Panasonic did not go with the stock Android UI for its phone but instead used its own UI which is called Icon UI. It is pretty much the same but which but visual effects and Panasonic exclusive apps. One such feature is the gesture control first seen on the Galaxy S4 where you can swipe through your photos by swiping your hand over the screen.
Camera and Multimedia
A 13MP camera at this price range is a great deal. The primary camera takes FULL HD 1080p videos and very high quality photos of up to 1440 x 2560 pixels. It has an LED flash which helps in taking photos in low light situations. Selfie lovers will be very happy with this phone as it has a front camera of 8MP meaning it will produce high quality pictures. Consider the fact that many phones are still using 8MP rear cameras and here you have the Panasonic Eluga Icon which has 13MP and 8MP cameras in its arsenal. The phone has a 720p display which means you can enjoy HD videos on the go as long as the format is supported which it will be since the OS is media friendly Android.
Battery and Memory
It has a 3500mAh battery which means the performance should be better than average as 3500mAh is very high even these days. Unfortunately no figures have been released for talk time or stand by so we cannot comment on that but it is poor move by Panasonic. The phone has 16GB of internal memory but the phone reserves some space for essential system processes so you will actually be getting around 14Gb or so to use. Good news is that it actually has support for a MicroSD card so you can expand the memory by a max of 32GB.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:
· 13MP camera
· Dual Sim
· Price
· Octacore
· 2GB RAM
· Big HD screen
For Cons:
· KitKat instead of Lollipop Android
Verdict
On paper this phone looks good enough. We cannot comment on its performance however as the phone is yet to be released. There have been comparisons made with Alcatel Flash Plus with many saying it is the same phone inside but rebranded by Panasonic. Only time will tell if it is plagued by the same issues as the Alcatel phone such as lagging and freezing. It has heavyweight rivals like Samsung Galaxy J5 and the Xiaomi Mi 4i both of which have good reviews and perform well. For now our advice is to wait for tech reviews after the phone is released on 14th August 2015 and then make your decision.
